Alan Lawson

It is with a heavy heart that we are sharing the news of Alan Lawson’s passing on the 25th March 2025.

Mr Lawson has served Old Edwardians in many roles over the years. He represented the club in cricket, hockey and bowls. He held the chairmanship of the cricket club, bowls and played a variety of roles on the Executive including three terms as President of the Old Edwardian Society.

Alan was awarded Honoury Life President of the cricket club for his years of service as a player and administrator. He also served on the Gauteng Cricket Board and was also awarded Administrator of the Year on multiple occasions.

He was ‘father cricket’ to so many that played the game at the highest level. Alan Lawson will be sorely missed by many but especially his wife of 70 years Jill and his 3 children Mandy, Ron and Diana. The multitude of condolence messages we received today shows the number of number of lives he touched!

His legacy will live on in the spirit of camaraderie, sportsmanship, and dedication he so generously shared with the Old Eds community.

Stephen du Plessis (Class of 1984)

With deep sadness, the Old Edwardian Society mourns the passing of Stephen du Plessis (Class of 1984) — affectionately known as Duppie.

A true all-rounder in every sense, Stephen captained rugby, served as vice-captain of cricket, earned athletics colours as a hurdler, and held academic colours. He remains the last Edwardian to attend both Craven Week and Nuffield Week — a rare and remarkable achievement.

Beyond school, his leadership shone just as brightly: from representing Transvaal and captaining Old Edwardians, to building a legacy abroad while helping roll out Nando’s in the UK. A leader of men, a proud Edwardian, and a life lived with purpose.

He will be sorely missed.
